An innovative upgrade of Schooner, the market-leading water quality data management software, is one of our current projects.

The Schooner software is already the largest water quality data storage system in Tasmania (see www.schooner.net.au). It provides ease of data handling and has extensive data analysis capability. With Lester Franks, we are investigating ways to link the complete data set via a voluntary data-sharing network. This will enable data sharing between data custodians, and automated reporting to the EPA, councils and other water authorities. It will also enable data sharing with the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), which provided seed funding so the system could be migrated for private use. (Early versions of the product were for internal government use.) We believe this was the most successful data acquisition system for water quality developed under the BOM funding regime.
